World premiere at the AMB trade fair in Stuttgart, Germany: With the DLyte Automated Cell Rösler OberflÀchentechnik GmbH offers the first fully automated system for surface finishing of carbide cutting tools with the DryLyte technology. This innovative machine can simultaneously and fully automatically perform multiple surface treatment tasks such as cutting edge preparation, polishing or decoating work pieces. This is possible, because up to four different electrolytes can be used at the same time in the DLyte system. The machine was designed with the goal of easily integrating it into existing manufacturing lines. Please find out more about this groundbreaking improvement of the DryLyte technology for surface finishing of carbide components on the Rösler booth at the AMB trade fair taking place September 10 to 14 in Stuttgart (hall 5, booth 5C61).
Since last April the worldâs leader in surface finishing technologies has been exclusive global sales partner for the DLyte CT series of the Spanish technology company GPAINNOVA. With the new dry electropolishing technology Rösler wants to offer an innovative and efficient alternative to the conventional systems for cutting edge preparation. Hartmut Thier, Business Unit Manager Sales at Rösler OberflĂ€chentechnik GmbH, explains: âWith the high quantities of work pieces in the field of carbide tool manufacturing, the cost-efficient automation of the manufacturing operation is indispensable to be successful in the market. We are pleased that we can present such a solution to our customers just in time for the start of the AMB trade fair, and we look forward to the response from the tool industry.â
Efficient work piece handling virtually eliminates unproductive downtime
With a footprint of around 2.2 x 3.7 m and a height of nearly 2.5 m, the DLyte Automated Cell is a highly compact system. It is equipped with two robotic arms and allows the fully automatic treatment of up to 72 carbide cutting tools within surprisingly short processing times and without any human intervention. Depending on the desired finishing results and the processing goal the cycle time just amounts to between 30 and 120 seconds. The cell consists of a buffer zone where a staging robot â with the help of a visual recognition system â handles the loading/unloading of the work piece carriers at two operating stations. In addition, it contains a polishing zone equipped with four processing bowls filled with electrolytes. The perfect interplay between the staging robot and the processing robot virtually eliminates all unproductive downtime, allowing the system's peak times to be maximized.
Seamless change of processing media ensures a maximum of equipment flexibility
The DLyte Automated Cell can be easily integrated into practically any manufacturing line and, compared to conventional systems for treating the cutting edge of carbide cutting tools, offers an essential advantage: The four bowls in the polishing zone can be filled with different electrolytes. This allows performing a variety of different processing tasks with practically no setup times. âDrag finishing, a popular conventional process for radiusing the cutting edge always required the replacement of the processing media, whenever the operator wanted to run a different finishing process or the work pieces had to be placed into another drag finishing system filled with suitable media. With the DLyte Automated Cell these non-productive setup times can be completely eliminatedâ, explains Hartmut Thier from Rösler. In one single DLyte system such treatment tasks like edge preparation, polishing of the flute and decoating can be combined with each other without extra setup operations and, therefore, with no loss of valuable productive times.
A superior technology â for the benefit of the customers
Hartmut Thier concludes: âWe are absolutely convinced that the DryLyte technology for dry electropolishing, as implemented in the DLyte equipment, is by far the best solution for finishing carbide cutting tools. And we are pleased to have such an innovative system in our product portfolio, because it allows us to offer our customers a true technological advantage. This technology represents the future of preparing the cutting edge of carbide tools. It optimally complements our range of conventional treatment systems and creates a substantial added value for the industry and our customers.â
